.

The Government is expected to provide clarification in Parliament on May 5 regarding the controversial USD 2.5 million fraud case. Therefore, it would be more appropriate to discuss the matter only after that, Treasury Secretary Dr Harshana Suriyapperuma has informed the Secretary of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) in writing.

The Treasury Secretary issued this response to a letter sent by COPF Chairman Harsha de Silva, who had officially summoned him to appear before the committee on April 29.

In the letter, Dr Suriyapperuma stated:

“This notice is issued in reference to the letter dated 28.4.2026.

The Government intends to clarify the USD 2.5 million fraud case in Parliament on May 5. Therefore, it would be most appropriate to discuss the matter after the Government’s statement is presented in Parliament.

We kindly request that necessary arrangements be made to convene this meeting after the Government’s announcement. We appreciate your understanding in this regard.”
