Russia Reaffirms Support to Sri Lanka in Energy, Investment, and Tourism

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko has reiterated Russia’s support for Sri Lanka in fuel, investment, and tourism sectors.
During a meeting with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Wijith Herath in Colombo, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. Rudenko praised Sri Lanka as a beautiful country with friendly people and confirmed Russia’s readiness to assist, including providing fuel during the current energy crisis, promoting investment, and increasing tourist arrivals.
He also assured compensation for Sri Lankan soldiers killed in the Russia–Ukraine conflict. Minister Herath expressed appreciation for Russia’s longstanding support during Sri Lanka’s energy shortages.
With approximately 70 years of diplomatic relations, both countries agreed that this is an opportune moment to deepen cooperation, including long-term trade agreements.
