New Skeletal Remains Identified at Chemmani Mass Grave Site
01-May-2026.
A new cluster of skeletal remains has been identified during excavation work at the Chemmani mass grave site, and cleaning work is currently underway, lawyer Gna. Raneetha has stated.
She made these remarks while speaking to the media regarding the third day of excavation work under the third phase of the Chemmani mass grave investigation, carried out on April 29.
She further stated that partial bone remains from two previously recovered skeletal clusters were also unearthed during the excavation.
In addition, several other skeletal remains have been identified and are currently being cleaned. Only after the cleaning process is completed will it be possible to confirm the exact number of skeletal clusters.
Excavation work is being carried out at a depth ranging from 1.5 feet to 2 feet. She noted that skeletal remains had previously been recovered at the same depth.
During excavation, suspicious black-coloured soil was found at one location, prompting officials to scrape and remove it carefully using a trowel.
She also stated that a small net-like object was recovered during the excavation.
