LPG Distribution Slows Down; Two-Day Delay in Ship Arrival Blamed, Litro Says
20-Oct-2026.
Consumers in Colombo and several other areas have been experiencing difficulties obtaining domestic gas cylinders, with distributors reporting that supply disruptions have continued for nearly two weeks. Litro Gas Lanka has attributed the situation to a two-day delay in the arrival of a shipment.
Litro Gas Lanka Chairman Channa Gunawardena said it would be inaccurate to attribute the disruption to delays in opening letters of credit or payment difficulties affecting imports. He said the delay in the vessel's arrival was the cause of the temporary interruption in supply.
“Gas cylinders are now reaching the market, and the situation is expected to return to normal within the next day or two,” he said.
He added that the company was taking steps to meet its own outstanding demand while also helping to address the supply shortage faced by Laugfs Gas.
Litro received 3,900 metric tonnes of gas in the middle of the week, and another vessel carrying 3,500 metric tonnes was expected to arrive. Consequently, the company did not anticipate a critical shortage in the market.
Litro had taken comprehensive measures to address the shortfall, he said.
