India’s Assistance to Sri Lanka Driven by Sense of Duty Towards a Family Member: Indian High Commissioner

India’s development assistance to Sri Lanka is being provided with the same sense of duty and responsibility that one would extend towards a member of one’s own family, in line with the position of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha said.

“As neighbouring countries and close partners, we will continue to work together along this shared path towards the sustainable growth and progress of our peoples,” he said.

Construction work on the Accident and Emergency Treatment Unit at the Mannar District General Hospital was ceremonially commenced under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on September 16, 2026. Addressing the gathering at the event, High Commissioner Jha made the above remarks.

He further said:

“I am pleased to see the commitments made through the signing of agreements for the Accident and Emergency Treatment Unit in Mannar and the medical ward complex in Mullaitivu, in the presence of the President, being implemented expeditiously.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that India’s development assistance to Sri Lanka is provided with the sense of duty and responsibility that one would have towards a member of one’s own family.

“We remain firmly committed to working closely with the Government and the people of Sri Lanka for the welfare and prosperity of all communities across the country. As neighbouring countries and close partners, we will continue to work together along this shared path towards the sustainable growth and progress of our peoples.”
