Government imposing tax upon tax – MP Kodiswaran

Tamil National Alliance MP Kavindran Kodiswaran stated that the government must stop increasing the tax burden on poor people through multiple layers of taxation.

Speaking in Parliament during the debate on the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill on May 19, he said taxation alone cannot resolve economic issues.

He argued that production and investment must be increased to generate foreign exchange rather than relying solely on taxes and price increases.

He warned that continued depreciation of the rupee and rising dollar value could push the country into a deeper economic crisis, urging policies that prioritise public welfare.
