Case against former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa fixed for trial on September 28

The Colombo High Court has ordered that the case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa and three other defendants be taken up for hearing on September 28.

The case has been filed over allegations that compensation was obtained by exerting pressure on government officials, despite the rejection of compensation claims for properties, including an illegally constructed building on land belonging to the Mahaweli Authority in the Sevanagala, Giribbanwewa area, following the violence that occurred after the attack on the “Aragalaya” protest on 09 May 2022.

Accordingly, the case has been filed against the defendants on charges that former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa abused his official position to fraudulently obtain Rs. 8,850,000 as compensation and assisted in the commission of the offence.

After considering the submissions made before court, the Judge ordered that the case be taken up for hearing on September 28.
