World Bank Approves USD 120 Million in Emergency Assistance
17-Dec-2025.
The government had requested financial aid from the World Bank to recover from the disaster caused by Cyclone.
In response, the World Bank decided to provide $120 million in emergency support by reallocating funds from existing projects.
The support will help restore essential services and infrastructure—including health care, water, education, agriculture, and connectivity—in the disaster-affected areas and assist in relief operations.
The World Bank’s private sector arm will continue to strengthen the private sector by providing advisory support in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and infrastructure, creating jobs, stimulating
economic recovery, and offering strategic investments.
Kevork Sarkissian, World Bank Country Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives, stated that their hearts go out to every Sri Lankan affected by Cyclone. He added that the nationwide unity and support among communities during this difficult time is inspiring.
