Where are those who claimed they could arrest the Tajudeen killers in one night?

With widespread accusations being levelled against Namal Rajapaksa and his family in the Vaseem Tajudeen murder case, it is shameful that they criticize the government, said JVP (Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna).

JVP claimed that they possess documentary files proving they could arrest those connected to the Tajudeen murder in a single night. If that is so, what happened to those files today? asked Saminda Wijesiri, a member of Parliament for the United People’s Power, at a press conference held in Puthalai on October 4.

He further said that the conduct of those now in power in the name of the National People’s Power reveals that for 70 years they have deceived the country and its people.

As a result, they have been defeated without them (i.e., their leadership). We ask the people to be ready to throw out those who lied to and deceived you.

He argued that a new political force must be created in the country to defeat their cunning politics. In the past, those harshly criticised by them as thieves are now walking freely, having been released from those allegations. Are they challenging the government to arrest them if possible? What is the National People’s Power’s answer to this? No government in history has deceived the people so much, he said.

When the National People’s Power says the tourism sector should be developed based on indigenous strengths, JVP no longer even has the courage to deny it. Although the central bank says the country’s economy has improved, ordinary people have not yet reached a level where they can eat three meals a day. Prices of essentials, including food, and service charges have not come down.

He warned that new legislation has been tabled on the corporal punishment of children, which could lead to further social decay in the future. The education sector of the country must not be allowed to degenerate at the behest of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, he said. Do not attempt to corrupt the nation’s culture for the needs of non-governmental organisations. Those who conducted investigations into the Tajudeen murder during the good-governance period now hold important positions in this government.

He said there is now suspicion that these people deliberately concocted the ‘B’ report and diverted investigations. Justice must be delivered in the Tajudeen murder. But political dramas are being staged based on that. There is an attempt to divert public attention in this matter to hide the government’s collapse and incapacity.

Those accused of such crimes are now the ones who heavily criticise the government. With widespread allegations against Namal Rajapaksa and his family, it is shameful that they criticise the government. They claimed they could arrest those connected to the Tajudeen murder in a single night and that they had documentary files to prove it. If so, what happened to those files today? Therefore, people must change toward honest governance and not be deceived again by believing these claims, he concluded.
