Warning letters have been issued to 25 sitting Members of Parliament and 100 former MPs for failing to submit details of their assets and liabilities.

These letters were sent by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena following a directive from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

According to the law on declaration of assets and liabilities, every MP is required to submit a declaration of their assets and liabilities by June 30 each year, based on the status as of March 31.

Parliamentary sources confirm that those who failed to meet the June 30 deadline will be subject to fines if they submit their declarations between July 1 and August 31.
