A virtual meeting was held on October 30 to discuss the procedures related to implementing the India–Sri Lanka Power Grid Interconnection Project.

The meeting was jointly chaired by Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of India’s Ministry of Power, and Prof. K.T.M. Udayanga Hemapala, Secretary of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Power.

Both sides discussed the procedural aspects required for the implementation of the power grid interconnection project.

The Indian High Commission in Colombo noted that during the meeting held in New Delhi on 16 June 2025, both countries had already confirmed the technical parameters of the project.

This power transmission link will enable Sri Lanka to import electricity during times of domestic shortage and export renewable energy when available, thereby earning foreign exchange.

The project is expected to diversify energy sources, enhance grid stability, and promote regional electricity market integration.

The Indian High Commission further stated that both parties will continue with subsequent rounds of discussions to move the project forward.
