The Chair of the Committee on Public Finance (CoPF), Dr. Harsha de Silva, announced that the Committee will examine two reports submitted by the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka regarding the fraudulent diversion of a US$2.5 million payment made by the Treasury to a third party, before presenting its final report to Parliament.

The discussion focused on a report submitted by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to the Committee concerning the fraud involving a US$2.5 million payment made by the Treasury to an Australian company, which was allegedly misappropriated by a third party.

The Committee recently convened at the Parliamentary Complex under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament Dr. Harsha de Silva.

The Central Bank's report was prepared after reviewing an earlier report submitted to the Committee by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development on the 8th of last month regarding the disappearance of the US$2.5 million. The Central Bank incorporated its observations and findings into its report before submitting it to the Committee.

Committee members engaged in an extensive discussion on the Central Bank's report. Dr. Harsha de Silva stated that the Committee would carefully examine both the reports submitted by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka before submitting its final report to Parliament.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Varuna Sri Dhanapala, Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy; Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka; and officials from the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT), among others.
