UNP Decides to Lift Sanctions on Members

The United National Party (UNP) Working Committee has decided to lift all restrictions and disciplinary actions imposed on members whose party membership had been suspended due to joining the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

The decision was taken on September 17 at the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, under the leadership of party leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe. 

A committee headed by former Attorney General Tilak Marapana, PC, has also been appointed to examine any possible legal implications of this decision.

UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena stated that this move clears the way for those members to once again collaborate with the party.

Meanwhile, the Working Committee also unanimously adopted a resolution thanking all parties that came together in solidarity following the arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
