University Teachers’ Work-to-Rule Protest Successful
01-Oct-2025.
The Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) reported 100% success in their “work-to-rule” trade union action.
FUTA President Prof. Prageeth Weerathunga on September 30 said the protest exceeded expectations, with university teachers across the country fully joining in.
He emphasized this was not to belittle universities but to express frustration.
He warned that if problems are not resolved, the quality of universities in Sri Lanka will decline significantly in the next five years.
Despite more than five rounds of talks with the government in eight months, no solutions have been reached.
