Universities may close if dengue clusters are detected
06-Jul-2026.
Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Madhura Seneviratne said universities will be temporarily closed if dengue clusters are identified, based on recommendations from health authorities.
He said the University of the Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo, which was closed following dengue cases, is expected to reopen on July 13, subject to health clearance.
With dengue spreading at the national level and several high-risk areas identified, preventive measures have been introduced across higher education institutions. The University Grants Commission has also issued guidelines to all universities to minimise the risk of outbreaks.
