Unified Decision Needed; Indian High Commissioner Emphasizes

India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, has urged the government to conduct provincial council elections swiftly in a democratic manner. He also emphasized that all political parties should arrive at a unanimous decision to hold the elections.

On September 17, High Commissioner Santosh Jha met with Members of Parliament from the main opposition, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), in Colombo. 

The meeting was attended by SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, MPs Kavinda Jayawardena, Harshana Rajakaruna, Dayasiri Jayasekara, and Nalin Bandara.

During the discussion, the High Commissioner underlined this point, while also reviewing Sri Lanka’s current political situation and the progress of Indian development projects in the country.

The Indian High Commission in Colombo noted that wide-ranging discussions on multifaceted Sri Lanka–India relations and the country’s development initiatives also took place during the meeting.
