Train Station Bench Made from Plastic Bottle Caps

At Maradana Railway Station, Kelaniya University students, in collaboration with Zero Plastic Society, Environmental Protection Centre, and Kadana Upcycle Pvt Ltd., have creatively repurposed discarded plastic bottle caps into a passenger seating bench.

The initiative, titled “Bloom Morphism”, was supervised by the Maradana Railway Administration and aims to reduce plastic waste pollution along rail tracks and stations.

The bench was officially handed over on November 6 by Station Officer Kapila Pushpakumara in the presence of the Railway Station Masters’ Association Secretary Kasun Samara and participating students.

The project’s goal is to transform environmental waste into productive, sustainable innovations for public benefit.
