The spokesperson of the Democratic Tamil National Alliance (and EPRLF leader), Suresh Premachandran, said they welcome the ITAK’s announcement of willingness to once again operate under the Tamil National Alliance.

Speaking to the media at his home in Jaffna on November 6, he added:

The government must stop ruling through governors and restore elected provincial councils. They keep citing boundary delimitation as a reason for delay, which indicates they are not prepared to hold provincial elections even next year.

ITAK’s request for unity is welcome, but Sumanthiran stated there are conditions. We do not yet know what those conditions are. Conditions should not be imposed before talks.

We left the TNA previously because of registering the alliance and contesting under a common symbol.

Opposition MPs requesting firearms may be due to safety concerns. Previous governments provided security. This government has not, and there may be real threats to their lives. The government must first eliminate underworld groups.
