Representatives of Tamil and Muslim political parties represented in Parliament have agreed in principle to work together on three key issues: the enactment of a new Constitution with meaningful devolution of powers, the early conduct of Provincial Council elections, and resolving land issues affecting all communities.

The decision was reached at a meeting held at the Renuka Hotel in Colombo on 13 July. While reaffirming that each party would retain its individual political identity and policies, the representatives agreed to establish a common platform to address shared concerns through dialogue and coordinated action.

They resolved to jointly urge the Government to fulfil its election pledge to introduce a new Constitution ensuring justice, equality and meaningful power-sharing. They also called for Provincial Council elections to be held without further delay and stressed the need for fair and sustainable solutions to longstanding land disputes through consultations with affected communities.

Leaders including Rishad Bathiudeen, Jeevan Thondaman, Selvam Adaikkalanathan, Rauff Hakeem and Mano Ganesan welcomed the initiative, describing it as a platform to safeguard democratic governance, reconciliation and the rights of Tamil-speaking communities.
