Sri Lankan President Meets with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Sri Lanka's President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is in the U.S. for the 80th Session of the UNGA, met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, at the Office of the UN Secretary-General on September 23.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner extended a warm welcome to the President. Discussions also covered the progress Sri Lanka has achieved over the past year with respect to human rights.

Foreign Minister Vijith Herath and Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN, former Chief Justice and President’s Counsel Jayantha Jayasuriya, also took part in the meeting.
