13-Sep-2025.
A delegation of 30 Sri Lankan government media officers visited India from August 17 to 30 to participate in a special training program.
The delegation included representatives from the Prime Minister’s Media Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Government Information, as well as district-level media divisions.
The program was organized following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement during his visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025, to provide 700 annual training opportunities for Sri Lankan professionals, according to the Indian High Commission in Colombo.
The two-week training program was arranged by the Government of India at the request of the Department of Government Information. It was conducted by leading Indian institutions such as the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, and the Press Information Bureau.
The sessions included discussions on public diplomacy, press relations, digital media practices, and media management.
As part of experiential learning, the delegation visited the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha State Disaster Management Authority, and Kalinga Stadium.
They also met with the Chief Minister of Odisha to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in media and public relations.
Beyond professional training, the program also offered opportunities to experience India’s economic growth, digital public infrastructure, advancements in artificial intelligence, dynamic tourism sector, and its rich cultural heritage and hospitality.
The Indian High Commission further noted that this special training program for Sri Lankan government media officers contributed to enhancing expertise, knowledge-sharing, and institutional linkages between the two countries in the fields of media and communication.
