Sri Lanka has once again reaffirmed its firm support for the “One China” policy, recognizing the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legitimate representative of China, in accordance with United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758.
This reaffirmation was made during a meeting between Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath, held to discuss potential Chinese assistance to Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah.
Minister Herath expressed appreciation for China’s continued support, including recent assistance provided in response to adverse weather conditions, and reiterated Colombo’s consistent position on the One China policy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that discussions also covered multi-sectoral support to Sri Lanka based on assessments of post-disaster needs.
