Citing statistics, he noted that agriculture contributes 16% to India’s GDP but only 8% in Sri Lanka, highlighting the need for modernization.

Premadasa invited Indian agricultural institutions to work closely with Sri Lanka to modernize its agricultural practices and ensure food security.

Potential areas of cooperation identified included joint research, knowledge exchange, precision agriculture, climate modeling, and fertilizer quality improvement.

He expressed confidence that both nations could deepen collaboration for mutual agricultural sustainability and innovation.
