Special Measures to Expand Drug Quality Testing – Minister Nalinda

Health and Mass Media Minister Nalinda Jayatissa has instructed relevant officials to expedite testing procedures by prioritizing suspicious and problematic medicines, ensuring that drug supply is not disrupted.
A special discussion was held at the Ministry on Dec 25 under the Minister’s leadership to maintain proper standards in drug quality testing and to further expand the process.
The Ministry stated that the discussion focused on bringing drug quality assurance activities under a systematic and regulated program. As an interim solution to current limitations at the National Medicines Regulatory Authority’s laboratory, the use of laboratories of other government institutions was explored.
Collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology, Biotechnology Institute, Industrial Technology Institute, and Sri Lanka Standards Institution was discussed.
The Minister emphasized the need for proper coordination between institutions and stronger oversight of quality reports.
