Shiranti Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has filed a petition seeking anticipatory bail. The petition was filed through her lawyers before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court on 5 October 2026.

The Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) is conducting investigations against Shiranti Rajapaksa in connection with the alleged “Siriliya Saviya” financial fraud. Against this backdrop, she travelled to Singapore after being summoned by the FCID for questioning.

As she has not yet returned to Sri Lanka, the FCID has sought the advice of the Attorney General’s Department regarding the next course of action. Accordingly, if she continues to avoid appearing before the FCID for questioning despite the order already issued against her, the FCID is preparing to obtain a travel ban against her and take appropriate legal action.

It was in this context that Shiranti Rajapaksa filed a petition seeking anticipatory bail before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court on October 5 through her lawyers. Notice of the petition has been served on the officers of the FCID named as respondents. The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court is expected to consider the petition in the coming days.
