Protest in North and East on 30th Demanding Justice for the Disappeared

In connection with International Day of the Disappeared, the Northern-Eastern Association of the Disappeared has announced major protests demanding justice for the forcibly disappeared across the northern and eastern regions on the 30th of the month. 

The association has called for support from all communities without distinction to strengthen the movement.

Speaking further at a media briefing in Jaffna on 25-08-2025, representatives said:

Recently, a UN representative visited Jaffna to inspect the traces of the disappeared. It was hoped that this would signal justice, but that hope has faded. 

The UN representative appeared to rely on internal procedures.

We are demanding an international investigation and continue to insist on it. We have no trust in internal procedures. Therefore, on the 30th, we will carry out a large-scale protest throughout the Northern Province at Semmanai.

Religious leaders, university academics, school students, civil society organizations, and political party representatives have been urged to participate without distinction to strengthen the protest.
