Programme held to brief importers and business community

A programme to brief importers and the business community on the "Digital Signature and Paperless Customs Documentation Processing System", organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, was held on August 19 at the Chamber's auditorium.

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce organised the programme in line with the Government's plan to expedite the transition towards paperless customs procedures. The benefits that the paperless customs documentation processing system would provide to the business sector were discussed extensively.

Delivering a special address on the Government's digitalisation policy and the role of the Revenue Administration, Reform and Modernisation Division, its head and Senior Additional Secretary to the President, Seevali Arukgoda, said he appreciated the contribution of the Information Technology Division of Sri Lanka Customs towards the successful implementation of the programme, which is scheduled to come into effect from October 1.

This was followed by a technical session conducted jointly by officials from LankaPay and Sri Lanka Customs. Participants were briefed in detail on what a digital signature is, the correct procedure for obtaining one and how it should be used in practice when submitting Customs Declarations.
