President Anura Questions Omission of Tamil in Presentation
23-Nov-2025.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed dissatisfaction and questioned officials when a presentation by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana excluded the Tamil language. He instructed that all material be prepared with mandatory inclusion of Tamil.
This discussion took place on November 22 at the Presidential Secretariat during a meeting between the President and minority party leaders regarding the upcoming “Sri Lankans’ Day,” to be held on December 12, 13, and 14, with a focus on ethnic harmony.
The presentation shown by the ministry had been prepared predominantly in English. Noticing the omission, the President immediately questioned the officials and instructed that the content be translated into Tamil as required.
Vanni District MP Thurairasa Ravikaran of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi noted during the meeting that he had planned to raise the same concern, and expressed appreciation for the President’s sensitivity to the issue.
