President Anura on a Delaying Trend Regarding Provincial Elections; SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem

President Anura Kumara is adopting a continuous delaying approach regarding the Provincial Council elections. We will extend full cooperation to the government’s efforts to hold the elections, SLMC Leader and MP Rauff Hakeem said.

He expressed these views to the media on November 7 regarding the 2026 Budget Speech.

He added:

“The 2026 Budget offers no solutions to the problems faced by the people. The present government is continuing the policies of the previous administration, and there is no significant change.

The President made several remarks about the Provincial Council elections. In this matter, he is following an evasive path.

We will cooperate with the government on measures to conduct the Provincial Council elections. We remain firm in our stance that the elections must be held without delay,” he said.
