A resolution to amend the standing orders regarding legal action against serious financial frauds or corruption revealed in the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) was presented in Parliament on September 26.

The resolution was introduced by the honorable Member of Parliament (Doctor) Nishantha Samarawera, the chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises, specifically to amend the currently existing Section 120(4) under the 137th Parliamentary Standing Orders concerning this committee.

According to this, when reviewing reports submitted to the Committee on Public Enterprises by the Auditor General, if the committee identifies serious financial fraud or corruption, the resolution allows the committee to directly authorize such incidents to be investigated by a commission or the Inspector General of Police for appropriate legal action.

The resolution will be referred to the Standing Orders Committee for further examination, and subsequent actions will be taken in accordance with their recommendations.
