Opposition MPs Hold Special Discussion on Budget
07-Nov-2025.
Opposition MPs were invited to a special meeting on November 6 to discuss the government’s second budget and devise a joint strategy.
The meeting took place at a Colombo hotel with representatives from major opposition parties including the SJB.
SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara stated that the purpose was to brief MPs on key points ahead of the budget debate.
Since Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa is currently on an official visit to India, the meeting was held under his guidance.
TNA MP Mano Ganesan told the media that no conspiracy against the government was discussed.
Instead, they focused on the budget. Within the government, intense discussions were underway regarding the 323 drug containers seized in Anuradhapura, a case already referred to the Bribery Commission.
He said: First submit the budget, then investigate these issues. Changing ministers will not change anything. We will not participate in the protest on the 21st, but we thank those who invited us.
MP Harsha Rajakaruna said the government must provide relief as promised during the presidential elections.
MP Rohana Bandara said last year’s promised relief never reached the people, and they hope it will be fulfilled this year. If not, they are ready to take to the streets with the people. He accused the government of using drug busts and underworld crackdowns to distract from real public issues.
