National Movement for Social Justice Calls for National Media Policy
27-Jun-2026.
The National Movement for Social Justice has urged the government to finalise a National Media Policy before presenting legislation to establish the Chartered Institute of Journalists of Sri Lanka.
In a statement, the organisation called for wider consultations with media organisations and stakeholders, warning that the proposed law could affect media independence if the new institution is not sufficiently autonomous. It also raised concerns over the appointment process for the institute's governing bodies and requested that all stakeholders be given an opportunity to contribute before the Bill is presented to Parliament.
