Multi-Ethnic, Trilingual School in Polonnaruwa Opened with Indian Grant Assistance

A multi-ethnic, trilingual school built in Polonnaruwa with Indian grant assistance was officially handed over to the Sri Lankan government.
The opening ceremony took place on October 31, with Prime Minister and Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha in attendance.
India contributed over Rs. 320 million toward the project, launched in 2017 to provide quality education in a multi-ethnic environment.
In her remarks, Prime Minister Amarasuriya thanked India for its continued support in addressing infrastructure and teacher shortages in the education sector.
High Commissioner Jha reaffirmed India’s commitment to people-centered cooperation and expressed readiness to collaborate with Sri Lanka in line with India’s National Education Policy 2020 and Sri Lanka’s upcoming 2026 education reforms.
Past Indian development assistance has included the Tagore Auditorium at Ruhuna University, training for 2,000 estate-sector teachers, and over 200 scholarships for Sri Lankan students.
