Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated that the Government is committed to finding proper and lasting solutions to land-related disputes in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, including the controversy surrounding the Kurunthur Hill Vihara.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department in Colombo on June 23, the Minister said that many land disputes in the North and East had been complicated over the years through political influence exercised for ethnic or personal interests.

He noted that a high-level committee of senior officials has been appointed to examine the ground realities and recommend practical solutions.

According to the Minister, issues relating to the Kurunthur Vihara and other land disputes in the Northern and Eastern Provinces will receive fair and systematic attention under the present administration.

He further stated that political authority had often been misused in the past, making such disputes more complex. The special committee has therefore been tasked with studying all aspects of these issues through an inclusive and evidence-based approach with the participation of all stakeholders.

The Minister expressed confidence that the committee's work would pave the way for permanent solutions.
