Kuwait-Delhi IndiGo flight with 180 on board diverted to Ahmedabad after a bomb threat

An IndiGo flight operating from Kuwait to Delhi was diverted to Ahmedabad early on January 30 after a bomb threat was reported on board, prompting authorities to take precautionary security measures. The aircraft, carrying around 180 passengers, landed safely at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at approximately 6.40 am.
According to airport officials cited by PTI, the diversion was initiated after a passenger discovered a handwritten note on a piece of paper claiming that a bomb was present inside the aircraft. The matter was immediately brought to the attention of the flight crew, following which the pilot informed air traffic control and sought clearance to divert the flight to the nearest suitable airport.
Upon landing in Ahmedabad, all passengers were safely evacuated in line with standard security protocols. Security agencies, along with airport authorities, conducted a comprehensive search of the aircraft and its contents. Officials confirmed that no suspicious objects had been found during the initial inspection.
“So far, nothing suspicious has been recovered from the aircraft,” an airport official said, adding that further checks were continuing to ensure complete safety. The official also noted that the aircraft would be allowed to resume its journey only after receiving a final clearance from security agencies.
Bomb threats, even when unverified, are treated with utmost seriousness in civil aviation due to the potential risk to passenger safety. Such incidents typically trigger strict emergency procedures, including aircraft diversion, passenger evacuation, and detailed security sweeps, often causing delays and operational disruptions.
Authorities are expected to investigate the source of the handwritten note and determine whether the threat was a hoax. Meanwhile, IndiGo has not reported any injuries or untoward incidents related to the diversion, and passengers were kept informed throughout the process.
