Kerala woman, 23, dies by suicide alleging forced conversion, boyfriend arrested

Kerala police have arrested the boyfriend of a 23-year-old woman who died by suicide in Kothamangalam, Ernakulam.

Sona Eldhose, a Teacher training course student, left a suicide note accusing her boyfriend, Ramees, of assaulting her and forcing her to convert to Islam.

According to the police, Sona wrote that Ramees took her to his house on the promise of registering their marriage but his family insisted that she convert to Islam before the wedding could take place.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, including looking into the allegations of forced religious conversion.
