The Government of Japan has provided a grant of 282 million Japanese yen to Sri Lanka for the implementation of the Human Resource Development Scholarship Program.
The objective of the program is to provide training at various universities in Japan to promising young administrative officers working in the public sector, enhance their knowledge and skills, and develop them as leaders in their respective fields.
Under the program, 15 public sector officials will be sent to Japan to pursue postgraduate studies commencing in 2027. Their areas of study will cover a range of disciplines, including public policy, international relations and international development, macroeconomics, public finance and investment management, industrial development policy, and investment promotion.
Accordingly, the relevant grant documents were signed yesterday, Monday, by Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Akio Isomata on behalf of Japan and Secretary to the Treasury Dr Harshana Suriyapperuma on behalf of Sri Lanka.
The program was launched in 2010, and 254 Sri Lankan government officials have benefited from it to date. The program is expected to enhance not only the individual capacities of participants but also the efficiency of the public sector administrative structure.
