Jaffna Needs an International Cricket Stadium: Manivannan

“An international cricket stadium is essential for Jaffna. Only if such a stadium is established will our district players be able to reach international standards. At the same time, it will also multiply Jaffna district’s economic revenue,” said Tamil lawyer V. Manivannan.

Speaking at a press conference at the Jaffna Media Centre on August 26, he further stated:
“A culture has emerged among our people of opposing every form of development. This only creates opportunities for development and economic benefits to slip away from our region.
In the South, there is resistance to establishing an international stadium in the North. If efforts are made to overcome that resistance and establish the stadium, we will welcome it.
The proposed stadium would greatly enhance the development of the region and the economic revenue of Jaffna. Whether the claim that it would harm the environment has any validity remains unclear. If studied carefully and then implemented, the project will be of immense benefit to Jaffna.”
