Indian Army Chief to Pay Official Visit to Sri Lanka

As part of India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen defence cooperation and military relations with friendly nations, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on an official visit today (Jan 7).

Following his visit to the United Arab Emirates, the General will travel to Sri Lanka, where he will receive a ceremonial guard of honour by the Sri Lanka Army. 

During the visit, he is expected to meet senior military and high-level civilian officials, including the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, the Deputy Minister of Defence, and the Defence Secretary. Discussions will focus on bilateral interests such as training cooperation, capacity building, and regional security.

General Dwivedi will also address officers at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) and engage in discussions with trainees at the Army War College in Buttala. In addition, he will visit the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) War Memorial to pay tribute to fallen Indian soldiers.

India’s Ministry of Defence stated that the visit reaffirms India’s commitment to enhancing mutual trust, defence cooperation, and joint operational capabilities with friendly nations in West Asia and the Indian Ocean region.
