Under instructions from the Government of India, the Indian naval vessels INS Vikrant and INS Udayagiri, stationed in Sri Lankan waters, have delivered essential relief and humanitarian supplies to people affected by the severe weather.

The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka stated:

A low-pressure system near the Sri Lankan coast in the Bay of Bengal strengthened into Cyclone Titli on November 27, followed by landslides. The country continues to face flooding and landslides, with essential services disrupted in many districts. Heavy rains and strong winds, particularly in the Eastern and Central Provinces, have caused extensive damage to homes, shops and key infrastructure.

To meet the urgent humanitarian needs arising from this crisis, the Government of India has arranged immediate relief supplies under the Sagar Bandhu initiative.

The assistance delivered includes 4.5 tons of dry rations, 2 tons of other food items, ready-to-eat packs, milk and dairy products, drinking water and other nutritional essentials needed by affected families, along with additional basic necessities handed over to Sri Lankan authorities.

These supplies were delivered via the Indian aircraft carriers INS Vikrant and INS Udayagiri currently in Sri Lankan waters.

India stands with the people of Sri Lanka during this difficult period. Consistent with its Neighbourhood First policy, India remains ready to support Sri Lanka further and will coordinate with the Sri Lankan government to provide additional assistance if conditions worsen.
