If Ranil’s Bail Request Rejection Is Wrong, One Can Approach the Court: Minister Nalinda

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s bail request has been rejected, and those who claim this was an error can present their case before the courts. If a private citizen had misused 16.6 million in public funds, wouldn’t legal action have been taken against them? Those who have united today in support of Ranil Wickremesinghe can also revisit issues previously raised about him. The Minister of Health and Media, Nalinda Jayatissa, emphasized that the public must understand opportunistic politicians.

He made these remarks to the media following discussions with the Postal Workers’ Union at the Ministry of Media on August 24.

He further stated that:

Investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the past have been submitted to the courts. Arrests are made strictly according to court orders. Similarly, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been placed in remand following a court order.

Those claiming that placing Ranil Wickremesinghe in remand is wrong can present their arguments in court. Legal practitioners such as Namal Rajapaksa, Dayasiri Jayasekara, and Nimal Sripala Silva, who claim to be lawyers themselves, can raise these matters before the courts rather than merely making statements to the media.

It is only relevant to address in court that the rejection of Ranil Wickremesinghe’s bail was incorrect; mentioning it in the media achieves no benefit.

All opposition parties are now united. Their fear is justified—they are fully aware of their connections to state fund misappropriation, corruption, murder, robbery, smuggling, and illegal activities. Investigators already know the facts.

The public now understands that the law does not bow before power. People’s trust in the courts has been strengthened, and equality before the law has been firmly established.

If a private citizen had misused 16.6 million rupees, wouldn’t legal action have been taken? Today, those united in support of Ranil Wickremesinghe resemble the coconuts of a single cluster. If additional information regarding former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is required, those united in support of him can revisit issues previously raised. All actions are taken through the courts, so opposition parties must understand that raising false accusations is futile.
