Honouring War Dead Is a Democratic Right – Minister Bimal

Paying respects to those who died in the war is a democratic right, said Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake.

Speaking to the media after an event in Kilinochchi, he said:

“Even before our government came to power, people commemorated their dead. That was recognised as their democratic right.

Since our government assumed office two years ago, people have been able to remember their loved ones freely. The security forces will not obstruct them.”
