“Our health services are on the path to significant transformation. Outdated commitments are paving the way for complex new challenges. As we progress toward global health security, digitized medical care, genomic medicine, and cross-border health service delivery, regulatory frameworks must evolve accordingly,” stated Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Health and Media.

He made these remarks while addressing the centenary celebration of the Sri Lanka Medical Council held recently at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo.

The Minister added, “our health services are evolving rapidly. Legacy commitments are now creating complex challenges. As we move toward global health security, digitization of healthcare, genomic medicine, and international medical service delivery, regulatory systems must keep pace. The Sri Lanka Medical Council is at the very center of these pressures“.

“The Ministry of Health views the Council not only as a regulator of the medical profession but also as a key partner in shaping the strategic direction of healthcare delivery in Sri Lanka. For many years, we have worked together on licensing, education standards, professional development, ethical oversight, and workforce planning. These are not trivial tasks — they fundamentally determine the quality, safety, and accountability of healthcare services provided to our citizens.”
