Former Secretary of Ministry of Buddhasasana Granted Bail

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release on bail of M. K. P. Dissanayake, former Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in connection with allegations of corruption.

The order was issued by Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama when the case was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on 25 September 2026.

Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be released on two personal sureties of Rs. 1 million each and also imposed a travel ban preventing him from leaving the country.

The suspect had been arrested and produced before court by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over allegations that he caused a financial loss of more than Rs. 5 million to the Government by awarding the printing of a book titled “Dehemi Niwahana – Abegama Rekagamu” to a person close to him without following the proper procedures during the process of printing the book.
