Father of Shiran Bashik Further Remanded

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the continued remand of Abdul Razak Mohamed Bashik, the father of Mohamed Shiran Bashik, who is reportedly an internationally known drug trafficker and was brought back to Sri Lanka from Dubai, until 8 October.

The case was taken up before the Pudukada Magistrate’s Court on 25 September 2026. When the case was taken up, Sampath Aththadage, a private tuition teacher, was also named as a suspect in connection with bringing money belonging to Shiran Bashik into the country and matters relating to money laundering.

Accordingly, the Magistrate issued a warrant directing that the said suspect, who is currently residing abroad, be arrested upon his arrival in Sri Lanka.

Abdul Razak Mohamed Bashik was arrested by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau on 11 September in connection with investigations into the purchase, in his own name, of a luxury house in the Gampaha area using Rs. 30 million allegedly earned by Shiran Bashik through drug trafficking.

It is noteworthy that the suspect was arrested after officers recorded a lengthy statement from him when he appeared before the authorities pursuant to a summons issued by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.

Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.
