01-Jul-2026.
The Election Commission has instructed the relevant authorities to submit reports on the progress of court cases filed against candidates and political parties accused of failing to submit election campaign expenditure reports within the legal deadline.
Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake said the Inspector General of Police has been asked to provide an update on all pending campaign finance cases across the country, including details of the progress of legal proceedings in each district.
District Election Officers have also been directed to coordinate with the respective Deputy Inspectors General of Police and submit reports on the status of cases pending before the courts.
The Commission expects to receive all reports by next month.
The cases were filed under the Regulation of Election Expenditure Act, No. 3 of 2023, against candidates and political parties that failed to submit detailed campaign expenditure reports, including funding sources, within the mandatory 21-day period after the election.
