Discussion on Kivul Oya project will be held tomorrow

A key discussion on the Kivul Oya project centered in Vavuniya North will be held on February 9 at the Mahaweli Authority office in Weli Oya.

Government and opposition MPs from the Vanni district, local government representatives, officials, and farmer organizations have been invited. Officials from Colombo will present project briefings and respond to concerns.

Field studies are currently underway following public protests on the 2nd. Although the Mahaweli Authority initially approved the project, field studies had not been conducted earlier. Authorities have now expedited them in response to public opposition.

A final meeting on the project will be held on the 19th at the Vavuniya District Secretariat with the participation of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation.
