Deputy Minister Sundaralingam Pradeep meets Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin

With the aim of strengthening relations between the governments of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister for Plantation and Social Infrastructure Facilities, Sundaralingam Pradeep, met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Chennai on Dec 19, and held discussions.
Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, Dr. Ganesanathan Ketheeswaran, also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister conveyed his gratitude, on behalf of the Indian-origin Hill Country Tamil people, to the Government of India for its swift assistance to Sri Lanka during times of disaster, and to the Tamil Nadu government for sending essential supplies for affected communities.
Discussions primarily focused on higher education opportunities in Tamil Nadu for Hill Country students.
Chief Minister Stalin assured continued support from the Tamil Nadu government for the cultural, educational, and artistic development of the Hill Country Tamil people.
The Titwa cyclone that struck on Nov 27 caused floods and landslides affecting 17 districts, including the Hill Country. Detailed discussions were held on providing assistance to affected people and on short-term and long-term support from the Tamil Nadu government for their recovery.
The development and economic initiatives undertaken by the Sri Lankan government for the Hill Country people were explained to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Chief Minister Stalin also congratulated the
Sri Lankan government for declaring the Sabarimala Ayyappa pilgrimage a sacred pilgrimage.
