Cyclone ‘Ditwah’ moving towards northern coast of Tamil Nadu
01-Dec-2025.
Though rainfall is decreasing, water from the central highlands continues flowing downstream near hydroelectric plants. The public is urged to pay attention to advisories issued by the Irrigation Department, said the Director General of the Department of Meteorology, Athula Karunanayake.
Soil saturation across the country increases the likelihood of landslides. People returning to their homes should be cautious. Fishermen along the coast from Trincomalee to Kankesanthurai are advised to avoid fishing and sea travel.
Although the direct impact of the cyclone has passed, indirect effects continue. Winds could reach up to 50 km/h and waves may rise 2–3 meters. Fishing can resume in other areas after consulting the Fisheries Department.
