Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 31, during his historic bilateral with Chinese President Xi Jinping, reaffirmed New Delhi's commitment to advancing its relationship with Beijing based on mutual trust, respect and sensitivity.
He also stressed that both nations must pursue a strategic community, and their relationship should not be seen "through a third country lens".
This is PM Modi's first visit to China in 7 years, and he took the opportunity to highlight that cooperation between New Delhi and Beijing will benefit the 2.8 billion people of both nations.
"We are committed to advancing our relations based on mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity. Our cooperation is linked to the interests of 2.8 billion people of our two countries. This will also pave the way for the welfare of all humanity," PM Modi told the Chinese President during high-level talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin.
